Summer 2000... Trips

One of the perks of my job this summer was that I could take advantage of their alternative travel option.  Basically, instead of flying home from my project on the weekends, I could fly anywhere else I would like if the ticket was equal or less than the cost of flying home.  While I did go home a few weeks, I definitely took advantage of this arrangement.  One exciting place I visited was Austin, Texas where I saw Sara who was working at Dell.  Here she is at the beautiful University of Texas campus.  We also walked down Sixth Street, went on a glass bottom boat ride, viewed the expensive houses, went to a park, saw Wonderworld, saw the State Capitol, ate at Rudy's, and had real Tex-Mex food.

Sara and I figured we were going to get scammed when we went to Wonderworld, which in part sounded really cool and in part sounded like a major tourist trap.  As it turned out, we ended losing our completely because after spending an hour driving there, it ended up being closed due to a blackout.  But at least we go to take this cool picture in the cave man and woman pose.  Indeed, this WAS fun!  Let's take papa to Wonder Cave at Wonder World in San Marcos!

Another fun trip I took was going to Erin's house in Maryland for a long fourth of July weekend.  It was quite fitting to celebrate Independence Day in our nation's capital.  It was a great weekend, especially since Ethan, Emily, Ryan, and Rob were there as well.  Here is a group photo from a party that Erin had at her house during the weekend.

I once said that Erin and Rob are very funny.  And they are. Here is Erin pouring bottled water all over Rob, which certainly is quite humorous.  This excursion occurred on a day when we went touring museums and saw fireworks on the Mall.  That weekend we also went to the zoo, shopping, went to a party, Georgetown, and ate a lot. Since each day we woke up early and very efficiently got ready to go, we were usually ready to head out at about 3 PM.  Erin's parents were extremely hospitable to us and made great food.

Here is Ethan, Erin, Emily, Ryan, Seth, and a giraffe at the National Zoo. One of the highlights was when a hungry, hungry baby hippo put on a show for us.  We went to the zoo after Rob left because we figured that if we went, he would get hungry, hot, and tired.  Poor Rob was teased the whole weekend about his tendency to complain.  It was a nice change from me being the one always getting picked on.

Seth, Tim, and Mike eat ice cream in lovely update New York during my trip to visit Mike at Cornell.  We toured the campus and area, went to the art museum, played Risk, saw Scary Movie, rented a great made for TV movie, and ate a lot.

One of the other great perks I took advantage of was the ability to fly someone out to visit me in lovely Madison, WI.  It was great to actually spend some time touring Wisconsin with Andrea.  Here we are playing mini golf, about five minutes before a downpour that drenched us.  That weekend, we hung out at the University, went to the Wisconsin Dells, saw the House on the Rock, went to the farmer's market, saw the capital, watched MTV  and like all other trips, ate a lot of good food.
